Planning Committee

Hope Bohanec, Director of Special Events for In Defense of Animals (IDA) and Dixie Mahy, President of the San Francisco Vegetarian Society (SFVS) are the driving forces behind getting the VEG DAY MONDAYS RESOLUTION presented and passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors April 6, 2010.

Advisors have included nationally acclaimed vegan cookbook authors Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, Director of Compassionate Cooks, Miyoko Schinner, former restaurateur of Now & Zen & star of “Miyoko’s Kitchen” TV episodes, Erica Meier, Director of Compassion Over Killing (COK), and David Smugar from Supreme Masters.

Free Vegan Food Mondays
The future plans include VEG DAY MONDAYS where free vegan food and recipes are passed out to the public. Monday, April 11, 2011 was very successful (see First Anniversary & Future Activities in San Francisco). Anyone interested in assisting with this activity should contact Dixie Mahy at 415-273-5481. The dates for these are posted on SFVS e-list: sfveg@yahoogroups.com and the website events calendar: www.sfvs.org.

Restaurant Participants
More help is needed to sign up non-vegetarian restaurants to provide more vegan options on their menus especially on VEG DAY MONDAYS. We have the information, recipes, and format. All we need now are volunteers. Contact Dixie Mahy, 415-273-5481, if interested in working on this project. Bart Brodsky, Editor of Open Exchange Magazine, has offered to publish the names of participants to their readership estimated at 300,000.

School Board
Although Hope Bohanec has sent a letter to the President of the School Board, no action has occurred. We have the information, recipes, and chefs ready to go but we are stalemated at this time. Anyone who knows someone on the board should let Dixie Mahy, 415-273-5481, know in order to help facilitate a formal presentation.

We welcome suggestions for other projects and appreciate any assistance in implementing them.
